Overview: What is UP Scholarship? – Simple, Honest Explanation

The UP Scholarship is a scheme for financial assistance provided by the Government of Uttar Pradesh to enable eligible students to carry on their studies. It offers scholarships for those in Classes 9 to 10 (known as Pre-Matric scholarships) and for those in Classes 11 to 12 as well as for undergraduate, postgraduate and other recognised courses (known as Post-Matric scholarships).

The scholarship is available for eligible students from different categories, including:
  • SC (Scheduled Castes)
  • ST (Scheduled Tribes)
  • OBC (Other Backward Classes)
  • Minority communities
  • General category students
This helps students with the cost of their studies and motivates them to go for higher education

Application Process – How to Fill UP Scholarship Form Correctly (Step-by-Step)

There are TWO parts:

1) Online form on portal

2) Hard copy + verification in college. Both are compulsory.

Part A: Online Application on scholarship.up.gov.in (Official Process – Free)

Step 1: OTR Registration (One-Time Registration)
Go to scholarship.up.gov.in > Student > New Registration / OTR. Enter Aadhaar-linked mobile, name exactly as per Aadhaar + High School marksheet, date of birth, email. Save your OTR number + password safely – screenshot it. You will use it every year.

Step 2: Select Correct Category & Course
Login > Fresh / Renewal > Select Pre-Matric / Post-Matric Inter / Dashmottar + your caste category (Gen/OBC/SC/ST/Minority). Most rejections happen here – e.g., BSc 1st year students wrongly selecting “Intermediate”. If confused, ask your college clerk OR WhatsApp DigiDisha free.

Step 3: Fill Personal, Education & Bank Details
Fill high school roll number, last-year marks, college name, course, admission date, fees receipt number. Bank account MUST be Aadhaar-seeded (DBT enabled) in YOUR name.Father’s account will NOT work.

Step 4: Required Documents (clear scan, under size limit)
Caste certificate, income certificate (2026 fresh), domicile, Aadhaar, bank passbook, fees receipt, last marksheet, passport photo, affidavit (where required). Blurry photo/scan = rejection.

Step 5: Final Submit, Lock & Print
Preview everything – especially name spelling, bank account number, IFSC, income. Lock the form and take 2 printouts. Form once locked cannot be edited till correction window (Dec 2026).

Part B: Hard Copy + College Verification (Without This, No Money)

Step 6: Submit Hard Copy to School/College
Attach all photocopies + originals for checking, submit to scholarship in-charge before last date (for Dashmottar: by 4 Nov 2026). Take receiving/signature proof.

Step 7: College Forwarding + Biometric (Renewal)
College verifies online and forwards to District Welfare Office. Renewal students must complete biometric authentication at college (till ~25 Oct 2026).

Step 8: District Verification + DBT Payment
District Social Welfare Office approves. Money comes via DBT in January 2027. Check status on portal: Submitted → Verified → Forwarded → Approved → Fund Transferred.

Trust Tip: The portal is FREE. If any cyber cafe asks ₹500–₹1,000 for “guaranteed scholarship” or asks your OTP/bank password, walk away – it’s fraud. Never share OTP with anyone. Official site is ONLY scholarship.up.gov.in – check spelling carefully, fake sites look similar.
